Journaling: July 7, 2008 I kinda had a feeling I should take a pregnancy test, even if my period was only a day late. So I did and the first pink line clearly came into view, then a fainter pink line showed up. I woke Dennis up and told him I had tested and it was a "maybe". I think we both knew it was probably positive. So today, I tested at the doctor's office and it's official, we're having a baby, no maybe's about it! So excited! Our first glimpse of you was a special experience. Your dad was with me, and was watching from the chair as the doctor was conducting the ultrasound. I made him get up and hold my hand though! The doctor pointed out a little dot that was your heart beating. I couldnt see too well from my position on the examining table, but your dad saw your heartbeat. As we left the doctors office, I started crying from the overwhelming emotion that washed over me. Your dad embraced me as we walked back to the car, excited and happy and bursting with love.

Gem: I was out shopping all day, and I kept on buying baby clothes in every store! I couldnt help myself!
Ina: Are those for me?
Gem: ~pause~ Are you pregnant?
Ina: Yes, I am.
Gem: Oh wow, really? Congrats!
~another pause~
So is it a boy or a girl?
Ina: I just found out today. Its way too early to tell!
Gem: ~rummages through her shopping bags~

Theres a little bit of a backstory to the conversation on the right. Gem had recently bought Karla some adorable baby girl outfits, since she was expecting one. Then an ultrasound indicated it was going to be a boy!Thats why Gem asked me that question right away -- maybe she wouldnt have to return the adorable girly clothes shed already bought! And thats the story of how you got your very first gift the same day we found out you were going to be born.
