Vince, you are one fearless boy! After a bit of help going down the firepole the first time, you were ready to do it on your own! Again and again you slid down, with a huge smile on your face when you got to the bottom. You loved it!

Can you believe this photo was taken 20 years ago? Life was so much simpler back then, when all we had to think about were our games and our toys. Now we are adults, and have grown-up worries like babies and jobs and life. Through it all, we've been able to maintain an incredibly close bond. We are more than just cousins, we are also the best of friends.

We always think it will not happen to us. Here are some facts about breast cancer:
Breast cancer is the most common cancer amoung women, excluding non-melanoma skin cancer. 3 million women in the US are living with the disease, including 2 million women in the US who have already been diagnosed and another 1 million who do not yet know they have the disease. Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women between ages of 20 and 59 in the US. One out of eight women will develop breast cancer some time during her life – this means one new diagnosis every 2 minutes. Every 13 minutes, a woman will die of breast cancer. Approximately 5-10% of the cases are genetic. Estimates include nearly 40,600 deaths occurring from breast cancer in the US alone - this includes approximately 40,200 women and 400 men.

Do self-exams monthly. Have a clinical breast exam with your doctor every 3 years, starting at age 20. Have a mammogram at least once a year, starting at the age of 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, or other risk factors, check with your doctor since you may need screenings more often. Also, get tested to see if you carry the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene. Awareness works.
