Why do I scrap?
I scrap to preserve our memories, so that years from now, we can look back and remember these years. I scrap so our stories are captured, from the big events and vacations, to the little everyday moments we experience. I scrap to create beautiful albums for us to treasure and share with our families. I scrap to express myself artistically. I scrap to create beauty out of pixels and bytes, where I cannot with paint and canvas. I scrap to express what is in my heart, when it is bursting withjoy, and the tough times as well. Why do I scrap? I scrap for you and I scrap for myself.

My sister is such a special person in my life. Who else can reminisce about the Wuzzles, My Little Pony, and Popples with me, and talk about shopping, IEPs, and Oprah all in the same conversation? We don’t spend as much time together as we used to, but we still find ourselves finishing each other’s sentences or even saying the same thing at the same time! All because we are SISTERS.

Our family tradition of celebrating Mother’s Day together always turns out to be a lot of fun! And more often than not, there’s more than one occasion we’re celebrating! This year it was also Vince’s 3rd birthday, and Ming’s graduation. So we had triple the fun, and probably triple the food!
For me, the Mother’s Day part is always still the main event. I have great respect for all of the mothers in our family, from Nanny, to our moms and titas, and the moms in our generation of cousins as well! This year, there were a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle hints to some of us. Our moms have made it very clear that they want grand-children already! Karla at least will be joining the ranks of mothers next year, but we’ll have to wait and see whether I, Ming, Jona, or even Mary again will want to join in too. If our moms had their way, it would be sooner rather than later!

Like the multiple facets of a disco ball that reflects light in myriad ways, so do I have my many roles and sides to my personality; only some of which are displayed at any one moment in time. This is me in this moment, who knows what hidden facets of me will be reflecting light in the future.
